Latest update regarding buy-back clause for Sheffield United ace

It has been widely reported that Aston Villa have a buy-back clause in Cameron Archer’s contract which would be activated in the summer if Sheffield United were to get relegated.

Now, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Villa have no plans to activate that buy-back clause.

The 22-year-old joined Sheffield United in the summer for a fee presumably around £18 million, signing a contract until 2027. Details later stated that the initial deal would be £9 million, and if the Blades were able to stay up they would pay Aston Villa a further £9 million, if they got relegated they would essentially get their £9 million back.

Archer has had an underwhelming campaign for United scoring four goals in 25 games across all competitions but he is undoubtedly a special talent, and one I’m sure the Blades would love to keep in the Championship next term.

Sheffield United are in need of strikers this summer with news emerging that Oli McBurnie and Daniel Jebbison are refusing to sign a contract extension. This would leave just Rhian Brewster and Will Osula as the team’s only recognised forwards.

However if the Archer situation update is true then they know they have an outstanding Championship player on their hands. In 40 appearances in the second tier, Archer has found the net 18 times and provided seven assists for his teammates.
